The world of industrial networking lost one of its key figures in October with the death of Edgar Kuester, Chairman since 1996 of the Profibus Nutzerorganisation and also Chairman of PI, the umbrella organisation representing Profibus and Profinet technologies globally.
Edgar had hidden an insidious illness until it became too obvious to avoid. Even then he wanted things to continue and would call colleagues from his bed to ensure progress was not inhibited. His openness, ability to listen and his friendly management style were matched by a unique mix of compromise and pragmatism.
